So we've all eaten a Hershey's Kiss or two. They're chocolate, they're bite-sized, they're wrapped in foil, what's not to love? I'll tell you, it's the fact that they are intentionally making you leave garbage on your floor that you will notice later and think of buying more Hershey's Kisses.
Ever eat a few of these things and then come back a while later and notice a little sparkling shimmer on your floor? You bend over and look at it and see a little tiny piece of silver foil wedged between your carpet fibers. You pick it up and think to yourself "what is this from? oh right, the hersheys kiss... I must have dropped it by mistake. Hmm, I wonder if there are any left, I should go out and get some more."
Yep, that's right, they're forcing you to remember eating the kisses. But it's not hershey's fault that I dropped a piece of foil on the carpet, I hear you saying. Not so. Notice the next time you unwrap one of these things. Almost every time you do, a tiny shard of foil flies right off. No matter how careful you are, there's always a little tiny piece that gets away from you. It's not significant enough that you notice it or bother to pick it up, so it just falls... but then it flashes in the light at you later.
Same exact thing with the little paper tags. We think they're nice little pull tabs to open the foil more easily, but if you set them down the tiniest little breeze will blow them right off the table. Breathe in their direction, and they fly on the floor. Then later when you're cleaning up, you notice a couple little tags on the floor that say HERSHEYS KISS and again you think "oh yeah, I want more of those"
Anyway, we know that the shard of foil that flies off is intentional because if you look at the foil they are cut just right so that a little piece will come off every time, and you will not even notice it. But pay attention the next time you eat one... you will see.
Trash that you leave behind that has the name of the product, like a candy bar wrapper, can remind you of the candy when you pick it up hours later. That's advertising through garbage right in your own home too. You are being advertised at CONSTANTLY.
